The following extracts are taken from the St Anne's Church, Sale, 'Minute Book' - and give details of the Vestry Meetings and Annual Parochial Church Meetings between 1940 and 1949.
3rd April 1940 Annual Parochial Church Meeting
100,000/- Scheme:
£850 raised.
Easter:
462 communicants at Easter (222 at one Service).
Church Fabric:
140 had been expended - £88 contributed by Trustees. “... the church railings require attention ...”.
Organ:
“... was in urgent need of attention.”

[Note: There is no record of any Vestry Meeting in 1939 and 1940; perhaps due to the second world war?]

Organ:
“... a report had been requested from the organ builders ...”.
Vicar’s Report:
Attendance:
“... had not been very good during the months of blackout ...”.

“... had been going through difficult times ...”.
100,000/- Scheme: “... the period of three years fixed for this scheme came to an end last month ... brought in £ 1190-13-0 (£160 of this amount being included in the Endowment Fund) ...”.

“... Rev & Mrs JS Leather ...”.
Fabric:
“... slight damage had been done by an incendiary bomb but this had been attended to, thanks to the Vicar ... it had been suggested that the heavy iron gate and railings round the church should be given to the country as scrap, but this was not thought to be practical at the moment ...”.

Candlesticks:
Matter had been put to Parish ... grateful thanks to the donor
Organisations:
Youth of the Church now affiliated to the Sale Service of Youth ...
Envelope Drive:
Suggestion for an enlargement of the envelope scheme ... felt people should be left with a box or set of envelopes to give according to their means, without promising a definite amount.
Church Railings:
Sooner or later these would have to go for salvage.

Visitations:
Chairman expressed his regret that he could not make more visits throughout the parish ... sincere thanks to Rev JS Leather for his valuable assistance in this matter.
Hymn Books:
Badly in need of repair or renewal ... continue to use the present books ... make reference to the hymn number in “Ancient and Modern” ...
Insurance:
Electric organ insured for £400.
Good Friday Collections:
Forwarded to ‘Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Jews’.
Fabric:
Repairs needed over the door in north transept ... otherwise nothing of importance needing attention.
Diocesan Representatives:
Mr Tyrell and Mr Bird, Mr Marriot. [Note: Dr Hankey and Mr Russell standing down]
Ruri-decanal Conference:
Mr J Robinson, Mr S Leigh, Miss E Kirkman. [Note: Mr Thompson had had to resign; Mr Gilby unable to stand (expecting to be called up)]

16th April 1943 Annual Parochial Church Meeting
Envelope Drive:
One complete area had been canvassed and many new contributions found.
Railings:
Notice received from Sale Corporation stating that the railings round the Church would definitely have to be removed.
Sunday Schools:
Many teachers had now been called up, both men and women.
Baptism:
“… Chairman brought to the notice of the meeting the tremendous amount of ignorance regarding the responsibilities of Baptism and the need for the provision of God-parents …”.
Church Fabric:
“Repairs had been necessary to the N. Transept. These had been very competently carried out. Unfortunately the organ was badly in need of very extensive repairs. These would have to be carried out after the war and it was estimated such repairs would cost about £1000.”
Organist:
Mr Stratton had now retired after 41 years.
